A Break With Lala

I remember having to navigate the film and television industry as a young black female practitioner, it was predominantly white and male and the females were a hand count.

So finding someone to help navigate the space and help open doors with no strings attached was difficult. So I’ve always made it a point to hold the hands of other young women along the way and hold the door open to rooms I also had to fight to get into.

More of us united to ensure it gets easier for each generation. This is the work of elevating each other so we may get closer to our dreams. That is where our power lies. The more of us at the table the better.

Since 2020 this NGO seeks to give an opportunity to young female practitioners who need a break. #AbreakwithLala DM detailing the break that you need to get to the next step. Let me see how I can help you on your journey.

I call upon my fellow sisters, in what ever capacity they can assist to also give a break to a fellow sister. One break is sometimes what stands between us and greatness 🎬✊🏽!!! #WomenEmancipation

Most young women I have come across are interested in my journey, Questions vary however there is a common theme and question “How did you make it? How did you get ahead? There is a sense of desperation and fear as they are faced with the harsh realities of the industry.

My interpretation of their questions is how do I get a seat at the table? How do I gain access to the rooms where decisions are made, and ensure my voice is heard, how do I get the opportunity therefore the break!” - Experience has taught me to be well prepared, confident, and persistent, to equip myself with knowledge and skillset , know my worth and be resilient in all my efforts.
